BATWOMAN Will Not Use Previous ARROWVERSE Villains

This is a big year for the Arrowverse. Not only are we getting the biggest crossover yet in Crisis On Infinite Earths, but it is also Arrow‘s last season. The CW is staying in the “street level vigilante” game though, with the introduction of a Batwoman series. Ruby Rose will reprise her role from the Elseworlds crossover last year. The Arrowverse has a deep rogues gallery already, and there has even been some cross pollination, with villains from Arrow and Flash teaming up on Legends Of Tomorrow. If you were hoping to see familiar faces on Batwoman, like Deathstroke or The Trickster, you won’t. At least not right away.

At San Diego Comic Con, Batwoman Executive Producer Caroline Dries had this to say:

“We are not going to repeat villains from the Arrowverse; we’re using a whole new chapter of villains and heroes.” 

She went on to say that doesn’t mean there won’t be familiar faces for those who know the comics, or Batman lore. The first season will introduce Tommy Elliot, who becomes the villain Hush, eventually.

Her comment also mentioned “heroes”, which means don’t expect Wild Dog from Arrow or one of the Legends to move to that show permanently. I’m sure the show will develop its own “Bat Family” with people like Luke Fox (played by Camrus Johnson), who eventually becomes Batwing.

Now, that’s not to say that once you get deeper into the series that Diggle or Ralph Dibny or someone like that will show up to help for an episode. I fully expect to see familiar villains and heroes once Batwoman establishes its own identity.

It would be the best place for the Arrow veterans to land once the show goes off the air. But again, that probably won’t happen until next season at the earliest. It’s a good idea to not lean too heavily on that from the get-go, so it can be its own thing.

Batwoman premieres Sunday October 6, only on The CW.
