The Duffer Bros Comment On What STRANGER THINGS 4 Will Feel Like

Spoilers! There has been no official word on a 4th season of Stranger Things, but the show’s post-credit scene in season definitely opened the door for one to happen. However, with how season 3 ended, things sure seem like they would be different in a 4th season. Talking with Entertainment Weekly, series creators Ross and Matt Duffer commented on the feel of a potential 4th season.

“We don’t want to write ourselves in a corner so we try to have these early discussions with the writers just to make sure that we’re setting ourselves up to go in the right direction,” says Ross Duffer. “We don’t know a lot, but we do know a lot of the big broad strokes. At the end of season two, we knew about Billy. We knew that the Russians were going to come in. We didn’t know the mall and stuff, but again, we know these big broad strokes. That’s sort of where we are in season four. We have the big broad strokes. It’s just now about filling in those lines in the details. We’re pretty excited about where it’s potentially going to go. Again, like we said, it’s going to feel very different than this season. But I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting.”

Do not read any further if you haven’t watched this season.

Matt adds:

“I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”

With Hopper seemingly gone, and the Byers family (and Eleven) moving away from Hawkins, the show would certainly have to have a bigger scale and a different feel going forward. No more “small town happenings”. Now the show would have a global feel.

“Assuming there’s a season 4, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell and then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon, is a tease,” says Ross. “That’s obviously going to play a huge role in a potential season four.”

To me, there is no question who the American in the cell is. I would be willing to bet anything other than my vintage 1977 stuffed Chewbacca (because you never bet the Wookiee) that Hopper is in the cell. Bookmark this and remember, because you don’t do a season of Stranger Things without David Harbour.

So season 4 will have stories wherever the Byers and Eleven are. It will also have stories in Russia, and the epicenter of Hawkins, Indiana would still play a crucial role. The contrast of this with season 3, which was one of the tightest, streamlined and most cohesive seasons of television I’ve ever watched, will be vast.

The first three seasons of Stranger Things are now streaming, exclusively on Netflix. I recommend you check it out if you haven’t already.
