Sigourney Weaver And Original GHOSTBUSTERS Cast Got The Call For Jason Reitman’s Sequel

One of the biggest draws of a “Legacy-quel” is seeing the original characters back in some form and catching up with them. While we saw people like Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd in 2016’s Ghostbusters movie, they were not playing the characters they were known for, since that film took place in a different universe.

But the new Ghostbusters movie happening will take place in the original universe. The film will be directed by the original director Ivan Reitman’s son, Jason. Weaver talked to Parade magazine, and confirmed she is returning along with Murray, Aykroyd and Hudson.

It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!

What’s more, Reitman was at the Ghostbusters Fan Fest this weekend, and brought some never before seen footage from the original. He hinted that it was going to serve a certain purpose later. That could be anything from flashbacks, to reference for digital de-aging, to a crazy-ass time travel adventure or something. Regardless, the little we know about Reitman’s Ghostbusters makes it sound like we are in for something special.

Ghostbusters isn’t the only huge franchise Sigourney Weaver will be a part of in the near future. She will be in the Avatar sequels, and is still willing to reprise her role as Ridley, if an Alien sequel ever happens.

It will be fun to see her back with the boys again. The one sad thing is not being able to have Harold Ramis officially involved, since he passed away in 2014. However, with the Reitman’s hint of using original footage, I would be willing to bet his presence would be felt in a big way.

The one I wouldn’t bet on is Rick Moranis. He is very happily retired, and I’m not sure if he could be lured out of that for even this. But if he were to come back for anything, I would rather have it be this, than the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids legacy-quel. But I’ll take whatever I can get of that beautiful genius.

It looks like the Ghostbusters franchise is about to get a serious shot of adrenaline, and the OG cast will be a big part of that.
