BILL AND TED FACE THE MUSIC Adds Brigette Lundy-Paine & Samara Weaving As Duo’s Daughters
Next year, we will get the triumphant return of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves as Bill and Ted in Bill and Ted Face The Music. But they won’t be the only members of their family to appear. Both of the character’s daughters will debut in the franchise too.
Deadline reports that Brigette Lundy-Paine will play Billie Logan, daughter of Reeves’ Ted Logan. Samara Weaving will play Thea Preston, daughter of Winter’s Bill S. Preston. Billie and Thea are very close to the names Bill and Ted, which means they named their kids after each other, and that is adorable! It also lends itself to spinoff potential. You have to think 21st century Hollywood now. Billie and Thea’s Sensational Quest or something similarly titled is a route I can definitely see the studio taking if Face The Music proves to be a success. Bill and Ted: Face The Music might be a true “Legacy-quel” where they hand the franchise off to the next generation.
William Sadler has been confirmed to return as Death, a role he portrayed in the first sequel, Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey. No one else has been confirmed to return. With the death of George Carlin (a man we need more than ever right now), Rufus won’t return, but I can see them inventing a offspring of Rufus to help move things along. Kevin Smith would be the ideal choice for a male offspring. However, a daughter would probably be more fitting now that Billie and Thea are involved, so how about Kate McKinnon as the daughter of Rufus?
Lundy-Paine is best known for her role on Netflix’s Atypical. She was also in Downsizing starring Matt Damon. Weaving starred in the recently cancelled SMILF, and the most excellent Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Their chemistry together on screen is very important, as that will determine future franchise plans, if the studio has any yet.
I am curious how substantial their roles will be in the film and if it will explicitly tease a future adventure, or just subtly hint at the door possibly being open. I guess we will find out when Dean Parisot’s Bill and Ted Face The Music hits theaters August 21, 2020.
