New Red Band Trailer Gives You All The SHAFT You Can Handle
If I wasn’t sold on Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role as Shaft with two other generations of the character, I would be after this deliciously vulgar red band trailer. (Obviously, this will be very not safe for work!)
There is a lot to love in this if you like this sort of humor, but I hope that they didn’t put every quip in the trailer. It would be a shame to show up to see the movie and know every joke already. The smartest thing you can do is give Samuel L. Jackson an environment to do what he does best, and then step back. It seems that director Tim Story did just that. The movie will shine brighter than it would normally because of it.
There is a lot of vulgar sexual and racial humor here, but perhaps the most clever joke was the meta-Laurence Fishburne one. The thing is, Jackson has been mistaken for Laurence Fishburne before. So that is something the actor actually dealt with in real life, as you can see in the clips below.
Shaft won’t change the world, but it looks like a fun time at the movies. I’d happily pay ticket prices to see Jackson curse at people for around 2 hours.
Shaft hits theaters June 14th.
JJ, aka John Shaft Jr. may be a cyber security expert with a degree from MIT, but to uncover the truth behind his best friend’s untimely death, he needs an education only his dad can provide. Absent throughout JJ’s youth, the legendary locked-and-loaded John Shaft (Jackson) agrees to help his progeny navigate Harlem’s heroin-infested underbelly. And while JJ’s own FBI analyst’s badge may clash with his dad’s trademark leather duster, there’s no denying family. Besides, Shaft’s got an agenda of his own, and a score to settle that’s professional and personal.
