Lucasfilm Is Reportedly Making A STARS WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Film!
Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm in October 2012, there has been one particular corner of the vast amounts of Star Wars content that longtime fans have wanted to see adapted to the big screen; the Knights of the Old Republic video games. The original two XBox games from the early 2000’s are widely regarded as two of the finest additions to Star Wars ever. Set thousands of years before the Skywalker Saga, the Knights of the Old Republic games introduced fans to numerous longtime favorites of the old Legends lore. There have been a few reports lately that an adaptation was finally being looked at and now we have a better idea of what exactly is going on!
Buzzfeed News reports that a film based on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game is currently being written by Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Shutter Island). The site adds that Kalogridis is very close to finishing the first script for a potential Knights of the Old Republic trilogy. While rumors have been circling for awhile now that the already announced trilogy from Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss would focus on the Knights of the Old Republic era, it appears this potential trilogy Kalogridis is working on isn’t related to their upcoming films.
As a fan of the games and the lore they provided, I am quite excited to hear that more audiences will be introduced to one of the most colorful parts of Star Wars and see how Lucasfilm opt to adapt the material to the big screen. After all, the existing new canon in Star Wars seems to indicate that the Old Republic era had an older aesthetic and significantly less advanced technology than what the games utilized.
