RUMOR: Benicio Del Toro In Contention For Mysterious THE SUICIDE SQUAD Character
Every week The Suicide Squad film appears to be having rumors float around social media, whether it be casting or plot details. These past couple of days appear to be following that same trend. A couple days ago there were rumors of Michael Rooker being cast as King Shark in the film, but that was quickly debunked by the man himself.
On Friday’s episode of The Fanboy Podcast, our Editor-in-Chief Mario-Francisco Robles pointed out that there are three key roles still being cast: “Creature” (aka the Alien Femme Fatale he exclusively revealed would appear in the film), “The Mayor,” and “The General.” During that episode, he pointed out that James Gunn was seeking hispanic male actors for the latter two roles.
And it sounds like he may have found a pretty amazing one…
According to sources from Geeks Worldwide, Academy Award winning actor Benicio Del Toro is in talks to be cast as “The Mayor,” whom they presume will be a villain in the film. Del Toro has had his share of experience with comic book movies, with his work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies and again in Avengers: Infinity War.
This casting rumor has yet to be confirmed.
The casting breakdown for “The Mayor” simply reads:
“An irascible old warrior, lives for war.“
So far, the film has returning characters such as the ever so famous Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). New additions include Idris Elba, who’s new role within the film has yet to be revealed.
I believe Gunn’s fandom of the franchise gives some relief to fans, as the quality of the film should be very present. And any villain at this point will more than likely be better than the film’s first in almost every aspect.
What do you think of Benicio Del Toro possibly joining the already stacked cast of The Suicide Squad?
