Box Office: AVENGERS: ENDGAME Three-peats As DETECTIVE PIKACHU Arrives In Second Place
For the third week in a row, Avengers: Endgame has taken the top spot at the box office. This weekend it fell 57% and added another $63 million to its already impressive gross. The domestic total is now at a staggering $723.4 million. That puts Endgame ahead of Black Panther to become the third highest domestic grossing film of all time. Numbers one and two are Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar, respectively. Avatar is at $760.5 million domestic, so expect it to cede second place to Endgame very soon. The Force Awakens $936.6 million haul will most likely be insurmountable for the Avengers, but you never know.
Detective Pikachu debuted in second place with $58 million. Some thought this would be the film to topple Endgame, but they were wrong. I didn’t get out to see this yet, but I’m looking forward to going. From what I hear it’s a fun flick. You can check out our review of it RIGHT HERE.
Coming in at number three is The Hustle, a remake of 1988’s Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, which itself was a remake of 1964’s Bedtime Story. The new film stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson as con-women who team up to take down some men who wronged them. Audiences weren’t lining up for this one, as it only managed $13.5 million in its debut.
The Intruder fell two spots to number four with $6.6 million. That’s only a 39% drop from last week. Its domestic total is now at $20.9 million.
The Long Shot also drooped two spots, this time to number five. It also had a decent hold from last week as that’s only a decline of 37%. It’s now at $19.7 million.
Next week we get the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. Early word is this is another killer entry in the Keanu Reeves starring franchise. Also, Halle Berry is getting in on the action, and seeing her on screen is never a bad thing. Yes, I’m aware of Catwoman. The movie is crap, but I never minded seeing Berry in the part. I’ve always thought she was the victim of bad screenwriting and bad directing. Feel free to yell at me in the comments below.
