OMNIVERSE: Jaden Smith To Play An Alt-Universe Version Of Kanye West

“Universes” are all the rage now. There is the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Arrowverse, the DC Movie Universe, the Star Wars Universe, the Star Trek Universe, a Bible verse, The Spider-Verse, the Monster-Verse, Ashley Eckstein’s female clothing line Her Universe, Dontatella Versace, and many more. But none of those are going to elicit the reaction the Kanye West show called Omniverse will.

THR.com had the burden of bringing this news to us. They report that Kanye West will bring the series to Showtime. It will focus on an alternate reality version of Kanye West played by Jaden Smith. The half hour anthology series will focus on “examining the many doors of perception“. I wonder if they will examine the perception of this show.

Omniverse seems like an apt title, but The Revengers and Play It LOUDcast co-host Brett Miro had a better idea:

Showtime could have their own West-World if they just hired Brett. West is a weird guy. So is Smith, so the pairing actually works. Besides, this isn’t the first time Smith has played alt-world version of someone. He pretended to be Batman at his prom. Then he made a music video using the suit. Seriously.

Writer Lee Sung Jin has the monumental task of bringing this to life. He has written episodes of Silicon Valley and has a really great outlook on the gig:

“I’m honored and thrilled to be collaborating with everyone involved to present an alternate world through the eyes of a young man somewhere in the multiverse who happens to also be a Kanye West. Omniverse is not set in our world nor about our world’s Kanye West as we aim to add a new spin on alternate realities, consciousness, and push the limits of half hour narrative.”

Look, I’m all for different kinds of art thriving on television. Different things will resonate with different people, and might inspire those people to make things that resonate with me. But this is about as weird as it gets. Hopefully people enjoy it though.
