EPISODE IX Will Be Called STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER, And Here’s The First Trailer For It!

Today at Star Wars Celebration 2019, director J.J. Abrams revealed the teaser trailer and title for the ninth and final installment of the Skywalker Saga of Star Wars and its Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.   You can view the trailer right here:

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

The trailer features our hero Rey breathing hard in the middle of battle. She hears what is presumably the force ghost of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker encouraging her after all the training she has been through, this fight is hers. A title screen comes up that says “Every Generation has a Legend.” It then shows Rey jumping out of the way of Kylo Ren’s tie fighter. The trailer then has a bunch of cut scenes from the film featuring Poe, Finn, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and in a tender scene, Rey with Princess Leia. Curiously, It ends with an evil laugh that sounds like Emperor Palpatine!

As a Star Wars fan that was a little let down after The Last Jedi and had mixed feelings about Solo, I have to say, this trailer has re-invigorated my excitement for the series! It looks like J.J. and crew are pulling out all the stops and are offering fans the grandest of finales for this saga that has spanned 42 years!

In a panel that also included a brand new photos from the film, Abrams and the cast didn’t give out much information in the way of plot info or spoilers except that The Rise of Skywalker picks up a significant amount of time after The Last Jedi compared to that film which picked up right after The Force Awakens. Abrams also revealed the main characters of the film Rey, Finn, and Poe will go on an adventure together in the film.

J.J. Abrams returns to the director’s chair after directing Episode VII, The Force Awakens. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Billy Dee Williams, and Carrie Fisher. The film is set for release on December 20th.
