Chris Evans on ENDGAME, Retirement And Politics

The Hollywood Reporter did an interview with Captain America himself, Chris Evans. They talked everything from football to retirement, to politics. Evans is a great embodiment of Captain America, doing the right thing for the guy who can’t. He’s very vocal on social media, spreading information for causes he finds important, as well as being vocal in his political opinions.

In these politically charged times, he’s taken some stances that could be seen as inflammatory, yet he revealed in his chat with THR that he has not been asked to stop by Marvel, or Disney.

Evans discussed why he won’t be silent below:

“You don’t want to alienate half your audience, but I’d be disappointed in myself if I didn’t speak up. Especially for fear of some monetary repercussion or career damage – that just feels really gross to me. Marvel has never said anything. On the contrary – when I bump into Kevin Feige [Marvel Studios president] the first thing out of his mouth is ‘Man, I love what you’re doing [on Twitter].’”

Kevin Feige supports him in the endeavor, saying: “I don’t see it as trash-talking. I see it as very astute, very honorable, very noble, very Cap-like. Commentary and questioning. I’ve said to him, ‘You’re merging! You and the character are merging!’”.

Evans also discussed the final chapter of Marvel’s Infinity Saga. It’s expected that this will mark his retirement from the role of Steve Rogers. If that ends up being the case, it doesn’t sound like Evans will have any regrets for how his story ends, saying “this one’s really good. I choked up like three times” and that he can’t believe they cut together a trailer because “so much of it is a visual spoiler.” He says it’s an emotional journey, and based on all the promotional material released so far, I don’t doubt him.

Feel free to check out the full interview below! Are you sad to see Evans leave the role of Captain America? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for more on Avengers: Endgame.
