NANCY DREW: Freddy Prinze Jr. Cast as Carson Drew For The CW Pilot
Nancy Drew is being turned into a TV show again, and this time it’ll be alongside shows like Riverdale on The CW!
The beloved young adult sleuth has had several adaptations, but most have not been successful- with TV shows not lasting more than two years, and most films being met with negative to mixed reviews. The books got their start in 1930 by publisher Edward Stratemeyer, and have been written by a multitude of authors, all under the pseudonym of Carolyn Keene. Warner Bros. recently released a film starring Sophia Lillis (It) called Nancy Drew and The Hidden Staircase. But Warner Bros. is looking to up the ante, creating a TV show pilot for The CW.
Kennedy McMann will star as Nancy Drew in the pilot, a newcomer to the scene. The cast will be filled out with Leah Lewis (Charmed), Maddison Jaizani (Into the Badlands), Tunji Kasim (Cold Feet), and Alex Saxon (The Fix). These four will probably be playing Nancy Drew’s crew, but we’ll see. Carson Drew, an attorney, and Nancy’s father will be played by Freddie Prinze Jr.
His character is described as Nancy’s estranged father, who is attempting to reconnect with her after the death of his wife. His efforts to forge a better relationship with Nancy will involves some twists and turns as her investigation will bring some unsettling secrets to light about her father’s past.
Prinze was a teen star, running in movies such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, She’s All That, Summer Catch, and my personal favorite of his live action set, the Scooby-Doo live action movies! He’s been a voice actor recently, starring as Kanan Jarrus on Star Wars Rebels. The CW has done amazing stuff with former teen sensations like Molly Ringwald, Skeet Ulrich and the late Luke Perry on Riverdale. Hopefully Prinze does well!
I’m hopeful the show succeeds. My biggest hope is that The CW sticks to source material, and not veer off of it like they did with Riverdale.
