Women are taking over late-night television and it’s a good thing. While Samantha Bee has found success over on TBS, Lilly Singh, a YouTube star will take over Carson Daly’s 1:35 am time slot on NBC. The show, entitled A Little Late with Lilly Singh, will premiere in September, marking Singh as the only woman to host a late-night talk show on Big 4 Network currently. The show will be a half-hour long, and will include guests, comedy sketches, and signature segments. The comedy sketches will be pre-taped, and it looks like the guests will strictly be there for in-studio interviews right now. Singh is getting to create the show from scratch, and she’s excited to begin.
Singh made the announcement about A Little Late with Lilly Singh on Jimmy Fallon’s the Tonight Show. You can watch the clip of her announcement below.
During the segment, Singh talks about starting her production company, and reveals her big news. She talks about making A Little Late with Lilly Singh inclusive, and her own show, something she can be proud of. She thanks all the women who have come before her in the late night talk show realm, and tries out Fallon’s desk. Singh takes over the “hosting” from there and asks Fallon for advice. He tells her the two biggest things is to 1. Not get sick, and 2. Be yourself because that’s why everyone’s watching. Finally Seth Myers comes in and they all toast to NBC’s late-night success!
It’s really inspiring to see Singh move from YouTube, to late-night television. She’s really built herself up, amassing more than 14 million subscribers on YouTube, and beginning her own production company. Singh has had roles in Farenheit 451, Bad Moms, and Ice Age: Collision Course. She’s an author of a bestseller, How to be Bawse: A Guide to Conquering Life, and has been on the Forbes 30 Under 30 Hollywood and Entertainment list. Fast Company and Time Magazine called her one of the most influential people on the internet.
Singh is royally impressive and she’s worked hard to get where she currently is. She most definitely deserved this honor. Maybe I’ll stay up past my bedtime for the show premiere and watch it. Singh’s excited to start, check out her tweet below.
