Will Ferrell Will Star In New Comedy EUROVISION From WEDDING CRASHERS Director

Back in the 2000s, there was a group of comedians who frequently worked together. They were affectionately deemed “The Frat Pack”. Will Ferrell, Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jon C. Reilly, and The Brothers Wilson (Owen and Luke) were at the forefront of this. But the constant team-ups also consisted of talent behind the camera. Now there will be a new pairing of this talent.

David Dobkin, the man responsible for directing The Wedding Crashers, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, will helm a new comedy called Eurovision starring Will Ferrell, according to Variety.

The comedy is set around the Eurovision Song Contest, the longest-running annual international TV song competition that has spawned stars like ABBA, which won in 1974 for Sweden, and Celine Dion, who won in 1988 for Switzerland. The 63rd edition of the competition had its finale in Lisbon last year, with Israel’s Netta performing the song “Toy” to take the top prize. The first contest was held in Switzerland in 1956 with seven West European nations participating; this year, 43 countries competed for the prize. The show has become a global phenomenon, with fans all over the world.

Presumably, Ferrell will be a contestant in the show, and hijinks will ensue. The format would also allow for some of Ferrell’s Frat Pack friends to cameo as other contestants.

The comedy is being developed for Netflix, who Dobkin has a good relationship with. He was involved with Marvel’s Iron Fist and Friends From College.

Ferrell’s last comedy, a starring role in Holmes And Watson with John C. Reilly was not very well received. Ferrell is responsible for some of the funniest comedies ever made (namely Anchorman and Step Brothers), so a few missteps here and there don’t hurt his credit too much with me.

While the debate between streaming and theatrical releases rages on, it’s nice to know that Netflix is undeterred in developing content with quality talent.

No word on a release date for Eurovision yet, but we will be sure to keep you posted.
