It’s Official: ‘I’m Not Batman,’ Says Ben Affleck

A couple of weeks ago, the world finally accepted that Ben Affleck had concluded his run as Batman when he tweeted out an article that said as much. Still, there were some who were holding out hope that it only meant he wouldn’t be playing the character in Matt Reeves’ film, which is looked at as a prequel. The theory was that he could still be the Present Day Batman in other DC projects.

But now we know, once and for all, that this will not be the case.

Last night, the Academy Award winner showed up on Jimmy Kimmel Live to officially “retire” his cape and cowl. At the start of the segment, Kimmel asks Affleck if it’s true that he’s decided to move on. His answer:

“Yeah, I am. I have decided- I tried to direct a version of it, worked with a really good screenwriter, but couldn’t come up with a version. Couldn’t crack it. So I thought it was time to let someone else take a shot at it and they got some really good people.”

Then Kimmel revealed that Warner Bros. had given them one set of his cape and cowl, and that they’d be hanging it up in the rafters like a retired sports jersey. Before it was all over, Kimmel asked if Affleck had one final message about his run ending his time as the Caped Crusader. He responded by putting a twist on an iconic line:

“I’m not Batman.”

And that, my friends, is that.
