GAME OF THRONES Co-Creators Offered A Trio of STAR WARS Movies

A year ago, it was announced that Game Of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were going to make a series of Star Wars films. The way it was worded, it felt like the movies could go on indefinitely, but now new information reveals that there does seem to be a set number: Three.

HBO Network President Casey Bloys talked to TVLine, in which he said Benioff and Weiss will start work on their Star Wars movies very soon.

“Dan and David are finishing up the final season [of Game of Thrones] and then they are going to go into the Star Wars universe. When they come out of that, I assume they will come back to us.”

When Bloys says they “will come back to us,” he means so they can return to work on the controversial series Confederate– which has been delayed. The series would explore an alternate American history where the south wins the Civil War and slavery never ended- similar to how Amazon Prime’s The Man In The High Castle presents a scenario that asks “What if the Nazis had won World War II?” It stirred up a lot of emotions when it was announced, but Bloys says the controversy has nothing to do with the delay.

“The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies.”

This sounds like it is similar to the deal that Rian Johnson got after The Last Jedi – to make a trilogy in the Star Wars universe not related to the Skywalker trilogy.

We know nothing of the future of Star Wars on the big screen outside of the still untitled Episode IX. We know we are getting two live action TV shows, The Mandalorian, and a Cassian Andor show. But outside of that, nothing. Perhaps we will learn more when Star Wars Celebration happens in April.
