Dan Fogler Says FANTASTIC BEASTS 3 Has Been Delayed Because It Is “Gigantic”

Hot of off the heels of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, the next one was gearing up to film this summer. The Wizarding World is a hot commodity, and so Warner Bros wants to churn these things out as quickly as possible.

But then it was announced that the filming of Fantastic Beasts 3 had been delayed. The reason, according to Dan Fogler, who plays Jacob Kowalski in the series, is actually kind of refreshing.

He tells HeyUGuys:

“Yeah, we start in the Fall. The movie is going to be gigantic! The reason we were given [for the delay] is that the movie is bigger than the first two combined. They needed more time to prep and they didn’t want to rush anything so they pushed it back. I can tell you that we are going to Brazil. I don’t really know much…[laughs]. I’ll get a script closer to when we start shooting.”

So instead of rushing something out to meet a deadline (Justice League, anyone?), they are actually taking their time to try and get it right. The second movie was bigger than the first, and if this one is bigger than both combined, then there will be a lot to go into it. So this is actually a positive thing.

Fogler hasn’t seen a script yet, so hopefully that means they are retooling that too. J.K. Rowling is the sole screenwriter of the series. That can be great, because she knows the universe better than anyone. On the other hand, a new vision could possibly do the franchise good.

I love the Harry Potter series (The Cursed Child nonwithstanding), and craved more stories in the Wizarding World. I was fine with the first movie. But wasn’t sure how that premise could be sustained for FIVE movies. Then I saw the second one, and realized I was right. They couldn’t sustain the premise, or sustain much of anything really. To me, The Crimes Of Grindelwald was a huge, sloppy, canon-breaking mess. Whether the reaction to that one is another reason for the delay remains to be seen. But it is good that Warner Bros. cares enough to pump the brakes to get something right, instead of rushing it through anyway.

You can also check out RTF’s official review for Fantastic Beasts 2 RIGHT HERE. Something tells me MFR won’t mind the extra time to prep (and hopefully retool) the next entry.

Fantastic Beasts 3: Please For The Love Of Everything Good And Decent Stop Messing With The Canon But If You Must, At Least Make It Coherent will probably hit theaters in 2021 at the earliest, if Fogler is right about the scope of the thing.
