SHAZAM! Action Figures Reveal Who Adam Brody And D.J. Cotrona Are Playing?

Sometimes, no matter how hard a filmmaker tries, details get released in the most unlikely of places. Toys have long spoiled movie details that people involved would have rather have kept secret. A LEGO Set is how we found about the Hulkbuster armor in Avengers: Age Of Ultron after all. A similar thing has happened with Shazam, providing evidence on who Adam Brody and D.J. Cotrona are playing in the movie.

Do not read any further if you do not want to be spoiled. You have been warned. SPOILERS!

Okay. Still here? Pictures reveal that Brody will play a grown up Freddy, and Cotrona will play a grown up Pedro, it seems. Both are friends of Billy Batson.

It looks like the movie is taking from the New 52 and will introduce members of the “Shazam Family” – giving Billy’s friends powers as well. Now, it doesn’t explicity say these actors are playing those roles, but we know they are in the movie, and the action figures definitely have a similar likeness to them.

It is unknown how large their roles will be. I would guess that they would be cameos to set up future sequels/spinoffs/appearances. But they could factor in to the story in other ways too I suppose.

The really cool thing is that the two actors have a history with DC. Brody and Cotrona were both supposed to star in George Miller’s Justice League: Mortal. Brody would have been the Flash, and Cotrona would have been Superman. While that never happened, they do get to finally be DC superheroes now, thanks to Shazam! director David Sandberg. (Armie Hammer was supposed to be Batman in that film as well, and there are rumors that he might be circling back around to that role as Matt Reeves’s Batman.)

Stuff like that, as well as recent rumor we overheard about a Smallville vet having a secretive role in the film, is pretty cool to see.

It will be fun to see a live action Shazam family when the movie hits theaters April 5th.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
