Love them or hate them, The CW clearly has a winning formula. Be it the numerous shows in the channel’s ongoing Arrowverse or other IPs like Supernatural or Riverdale, The CW has built up a dedicated base of viewers for their numerous shows. With that in mind, CW President Mark Pedowitz has announced at the Television Critics Association Press Tour that the television channel has officially renewed ten of its shows- including the entire Arrowverse– for the 2019-2020 television season. Among the renewed properties are Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Charmed, Dynasty, Legacies, Riverdale and Supernatural.
Here’s what Pedowitz says:
“The early renewal of these signature CW series gives us a head start on laying out the 2019-2020 season, and this is just the beginning,” Pedowitz stated. “These shows provide a strong foundation for our multiplatform programming strategy, and we look forward to building on this with even more returning and new shows as we approach the May upfront.”
This announcement should give solace to fans worried about DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, because things looked pretty dim early on in the current season.
Additionally chances are quite high that the Arrowverse will see a new show added to its ranks later in the year as the channel is working on the pilot episode for the recently introduced Batwoman, which will be helmed by the “Pilot Whisperer” himself David Nutter. Should the series be greenlit, as it most likely will, Batwoman will be the first superhero TV series starring a LGBTQ protagonist.
Personally I’m not surprised by most of these renewals. I don’t frequently keep up with these shows myself, but it’s hard not to hear about them on most sites on the Internet. Perhaps the only show that surprises me here is Supernatural, if only due to this being its fifteenth season.
