Edgar Wright And Chris Miller Think James Gunn Should Get His GUARDIANS 3 Job Back

One of the bigger entertainment stories that took place in 2018 was the sudden firing of James Gunn from Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3. The director was not only set to direct that film, but was also said to be the creative mind producer Kevin Feige was going to lean on as he pushes the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos.

But then a conservative group made a big stink about some old, very inappropriate jokes Gunn made on his personal twitter page many moons ago…and Disney axed him.

As cooler heads have prevailed, and as perspective has grown, though, there’s a growing perception that this was a huge mistake and an ill-informed decision. You’d be hard-pressed to find a colleague of Gunn’s who thinks his firing was anything short of ridiculous, and his entire cast even came to his side to campaign for his reinstatement.

Gunn has since moved on, and is actually preparing a new Suicide Squad film for DC Entertainment. But that hasn’t stopped other directors from vouching for him and making clear that he’s the best option to helm the third Guardians film.

A couple of days ago, a fan on twitter suggested Edgar Wright should be the one to direct Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, to which the Baby Driver director replied, “I’d like to throw in a suggestion too: James Gunn.”

Also included on that fan’s wish list was Christopher Miller, one of the minds behind hits like The LEGO Movie and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, who saw Wright’s response and coyly added, “He would be a good fit tonally.”

Taika Waititi

Another notable name on that twitter user’s list was Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi. He didn’t respond, but I’m happy to share with you that I have it on good authority that an offer was made to Waititi in the aftermath of Gunn’s firing and that he, and other trusted Marvel directors, turned the job down in an act of solidarity supporting Gunn.

So here we are. It’s almost February, and Guardians 3– which was supposed to be entering production right about now- is still without a director.

At this point, would you rather they hire someone to get it going within the next year, or would you be content to wait until after Gunn is done with Suicide Squad to see if he could come back to cap off his cosmic Marvel trilogy?
