Dave Bautista To Reunite With Denis Villeneuve For DUNE
As the decade enters into its twilight year, I think it’s rather safe to say that Denis Villeneuve has become one of the most relevant directors of the 2010’s. Hot off the heels of his string of hits from Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Arrival and Blade Runner 2049, anticipation is exceedingly high for his upcoming Dune adaptation. With Rogue One cinematographer Greig Fraser set to shoot the film and actors Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson to star, big names are circling around the latest project from the acclaimed French Canadian filmmaker.
According to the latest reports, one such name is Guardians of the Galaxy veteran Dave Bautista. This will act as a reunion between Bautista and Villeneuve, as the former WWE wrestler made a brief appearance in 2017’s Blade Runner 2049. THR specifies that Bautista will be playing the role of Glossu “Beast” Rabban, the sadistic, violent nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.
Personally this casting has me ridiculously excited. While his role in Blade Runner 2049 was brief, Bautista’s performance in the film as Sapper Morton was actually one of the most memorable parts of the film for me and established quite plainly that Bautista isn’t just ridiculously good at comedic acting (which itself is quite difficult). He’s got impressive dramatic chops too.
Considering that production on Dune is set to begin in the coming months, it’s inevitable that more casting choices are announced along the way. If they’re anything like Chalamet, Ferguson, Bautista or just about any other actor Villeneuve’s worked with in his past several films, I think the hype for Dune is going to continue to rise.
