It’s perhaps a little strange, but there’s one line from the original 1995 Bad Boys that I occasionally repeat aloud. Usually to myself. Occasionally into a mirror. “I’m Mike Lowery.” There was something about Martin Lawrence’s delivery of that line, while trying to psych himself up in an absurd scenario where he’s impersonating his bachelor partner, Mike Lowery. Cracked me up then, and it cracks me up now.
Anyway, you’re probably here for that Bad Boys For Life synopsis I promised you up there in there in the headline.
Well, here goes, courtesy of Production Weekly:
“The new installment centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Jacob Scipio), head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature. He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike (Will Smith).”
Sounds like one bad mother.
Now, I’ve got to say…I am surprisingly in for this movie. There was nothing quite like witnessing Will Smith’s meteoric rise in the early 90s. Seeing the spectacle of a star being born. And Bad Boys was part of that original ascent. So having Smith return to this series instantly makes this a big deal. Then when you consider his unbelievable chemistry with Martin Lawrence, there’s just a lot to be hopeful for.
I’m also thrilled to the gills that they’re bringing Joey Pants back, too.
So what do you think of that synopsis? Sounds like a fine premise for some hard-hitting Bad Boys mayhem, with plenty of room for these characters to do their thing.
Bad Boys For Life is set to arrive on January 17, 2020.
