Interactive BLACK MIRROR Movie BANDERSNATCH Has Caused Season 5 To Be Delayed
Here at RTF, we often report on Jordan Peele’s upcoming reboot of the classic anthology show The Twilight Zone. While that franchise’s return certainly warrants excitement, it’s hard to not to think that some part of this revival in anthology television is due to the resounding success of the British and Netflix series Black Mirror. Even if you’re like me and only have a limited familiarity with the show, chances are you’ve at least heard plenty about it from friends or on the Internet. Especially over this past Winter Break, with the recent release of the property’s groundbreaking interactive movie “Bandersnatch.”
In a new article on the revolutionary episode from THR, showrunners Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones confirmed that Black Mirror‘s anticipated fifth season has been delayed for a release later in the year due to the extensive amount of work and resources that went into making “Bandersnatch” even remotely possible to begin with. After all, by effectively making an interactive “choose your own adventure” movie that can end in roughly five different ways with numerous more versions with finer differences from viewing to viewing, the team behind “Bandersnatch” were effectively making far more than just one single episode for the show.
As I mentioned before, I don’t have much familiarity with Black Mirror. I’ve seen parts of certain episodes from the fourth season and know about the critically acclaimed episode “San Junipero,” but I’ve yet to ever actually sit down and watch a full episode of the show on my own. Nonetheless reading about the amount of work that went into “Bandersnatch” makes me all the more intrigued in the franchise and the possibilities of where the creative team might opt to go next with future episodes.
