IRON FIST Standout Jessica Henwick Joins GODZILLA VS. KONG

Read Time:2 Minute, 30 Second

While the reception to Marvel’s Iron Fist was always somewhat of a mixed bag (so much so that the show was the first Marvel series to be cancelled by Netflix), there was one aspect of that show that always drew raves: Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing. In many ways, she was seen as the show’s biggest attraction and that’s why we’re happy to report that she’s landed her next role, and it’s in a big movie. Literally. Monstrously big. We’re talking about Adam Wingard’s Godzilla vs. Kong!

Yup, the film- which will be the fourth entry in Legendary’s MonsterVerse– has been steadily adding talent these last few weeks and Jessica Henwick is the latest name to join the high-profile project. She’s now part of a cast that includes Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, Bryan Tyree Henry, Eiza Gonzalez, Rebecca Hall, and Demian Bichir.

It should be noted that the film has been on this huge casting tear over the course of the last month, meanwhile there’s an entire film that comes out before it that’s still a ways off.

We got Godzilla in 2014, followed by Kong: Skull Island in 2017, and the follow-up to those is a little film called Godzilla: King of The Monsters– which won’t arrive theaters until May 31 of 2019. Godzilla vs. Kong isn’t scheduled to release until May of 2020.

Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. (who are distributing the film) must be feeling awfully confident about how folks are going to take to Godzilla: King of The Monsters if they’re already knee-deep in development for the next sequel. Their confidence is likely fueled by the excited response given the world over to the film’s first trailer, which debuted at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and quickly became a favorite amongst fans.

Both Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla and Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island were moderate hits, with the former earning $529M on a $160M budget and the latter earning $566M on a budget of $185M. Both also received practically the same score on Rotten Tomatoes (75% and 76%, respectively). So it stands to reason that people will show up in May for the third film in this budding universe.

Variety broke the story of Henwick’s casting, but has no details on who she’ll be playing. The British actress has been on quite a tear these last few years. After scoring a breakout role in HBO’s beloved Game of Thrones, Henwick followed that up with an appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and then went on to play Wing in both seasons of Iron FistThe Defenders, and the second season of Luke Cage.

Godzilla vs. Kong is certainly shaping up to be a monumental rematch. The two Hollywood titans faced off on the big screen once before, in King Kong vs Godzilla back in 1962.
