The BREAKING BAD MOVIE Is A Sequel About Jesse Pinkman!

Yesterday we got word that there was a Breaking Bad movie of some kind happening. I theorized what it could possibly be. Whatever it was, I knew it wouldn’t work unless you had one of the big three – Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, or Bob Odenkirk. Turns out, they feel the same way.

The good folks over at /Film have the scoop – the movie will take place after the events of Breaking Bad and will focus on Jesse Pinkman, with Aaron Paul returning to the role.

The finale showed Pinkman escape his kidnappers and drive off into the night. It was very well acted by Paul. But fans didn’t really get the closure they desired. The story, after all, was about Walter White. The finale needed to use its precious minutes to end his story. End it they did – quite brilliantly too.

Jesse Pinkman had a tough life, made tougher by being involved with Walter White. He deserves a happy ending, but rumors are that the movie is about “the escape of a kidnapped man and his quest for freedom.”

Well, that’s exactly what happened to him in the finale. Is that what this is referring to? Or does Jesse get kidnapped again? /Film pulled a quote that creator Vince Gilligan gave to GQ about Jesse’s potential fate.

“My personal feeling is that he got away. But the most likely thing, as negative as this sounds, is that they’re going to find this kid’s fingerprints all over this lab and they’re going to find him within a day or a week or a month. And he’s still going to be on the hook for the murder of two federal agents. But yeah, even though that’s the most likely outcome, the way I see it is that he got away and got to Alaska, changed his name, and had a new life. You want that for the kid. He deserves it.”

So maybe the movie uses the kidnapping in the finale as a catalyst for the journey of Jesse Pink. I can’t imagine anything in the Breaking Bad universe having a happy ending, but maybe, just this once, we can see Jesse get some real happiness.

I also see a way that Bryan Cranston could be involved. They could use him as a vision haunting Jesse. Like a “devil on your shoulder” type thing. It would allow Cranston to return to the character, without it being too farfetched. There’s no way that Jesse isn’t haunted by those events. So Walter White can be seen in that way. Sort of like in Daredevil Season 3 when Fisk was used in scenes where Matt Murdock was alone and contemplating things. I’d be shocked if they didn’t use Cranston in some form. This way seems most likely.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are two of the best television shows ever made. It is amazing what Gilligan has accomplished. Hopefully this movie will add to the legacy, and not hurt it.
