Taron Egerton Says He Won’t Appear In The KINGSMAN Prequel- Because Duh
The Kingsman movies are turning into a fully-fledged franchise. Matthew Vaughn, who directed the first two, is overseeing it. The franchise will involve a third Kingsman movie, which is “the conclusion of the Harry Hart-Eggsy relationship.” It will also contain a prequel movie called Kingsman: The Great Game, a Statesman movie, and a potential television show.
But Taron Egerton – who plays Eggsy in the movies, talked to Yahoo, and said he would not be returning for the next movie.
“I don’t know how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie. That doesn’t mean I won’t be in Kingsman ever again. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me.”
While many (including me) thought the next Kingsman movie would be part three in the Harry/Eggsy trilogy, it turns out that it will instead be the prequel The Great Game. The original report of all the new Kingsman stuff from Empire Online said that The Great Game and Kingsman 3 would film back to back. That might have changed, but we are getting the prequel first instead.
It’s been confirmed that the third film will be released by Fox on November 9, 2019, but will focus on the Secret Service’s missions during the early 20th Century. It will also introduce a teen named Conrad, who wants to fight in World War I, as well as a new adult character rumoured to be played by Ralph Fiennes.
So that makes sense, the character of Eggsy has no business being in that movie, since it takes place before he existed. Seeing Ralph Fiennes in that universe would be incredible though.
I loved the first movie – and enjoyed the second movie more than most people, though I recognize it had its issues. Doing The Great Game next year lets the Eggsy story breathe a little bit. We still get Kingsman on schedule, but get to take a break at the same time.
Kingsman: The Great Game hits theaters November 9, 2019. Taron Egerton’s Eggsy will return eventually too.
