Mike Myers Says AUSTIN POWERS 4 Is ‘Looking Good’

It’s been a good sixteen years since super spy Austin Powers and his arch-nemesis Dr. Evil last appeared on the big screen with 2002’s Goldmember. At the time, Mike Myers’ iconic James Bond parody series was a massive part of pop culture. And in this age of nostalgia-driven blockbusters, it seems inevitable that audiences will see the man who also likes to live dangerously again. We already know that there’s hopes of making a Dr. Evil film, after all. Myers certainly seems optimistic about the possibility of an Austin Powers 4.

In an interview at the premiere of Bohemian Rhapsody, the comedian teased, “You’re going to see Dr. Evil soon, somewhere in the culture.” So it definitely sounds like plans are still onboard for Dr. Evil’s solo film.

The [fourth Austin Powers] movie… it’s looking good,” Myers continued, before adding: “They take a long time to write, they always have.

I can’t help but wonder what the reception will be if either of these two films do happen. There’s certainly still ample grounds for parodying Bond one way or another, but pop culture and social norms have changed quite a bit since 2002. I suspect that it will take some thinking and assessing today’s playing field on how best to reintroduce the world to Myers’ lovable scoundrel in Austin Powers 4.

Honestly I think Myers’ plan of starting with bringing Dr. Evil back into the fray first and then doing Austin Powers 4 is probably the best way to go. The awkward supervillain was always my favorite part of the old Powers films and I could see potential in perhaps doing a film with Dr. Evil as the lead that pokes fun at how serious and gritty the espionage genre became over the past sixteen or so years.
