Director Patty Jenkins Addresses WONDER WOMAN 1984’s New 2020 Release Date
It’s been a bit of a rough patch lately for DCU fans, hasn’t it? First the chances of fans ever getting to see a new Superman movie starring Henry Cavill plummeted. Then it was reported that The Flash was going to take longer than anticipated, bumping that film over to a 2021 release date at the earliest. Suffice it to say, DCU fans got a bit of a surprise yesterday when actress Gal Gadot announced on Twitter that Wonder Woman 1984 had been moved from a November 2019 release to June 5, 2020.
Gadot stated, “Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!”

While the lengthy bump in its release date is unfortunate for everyone chomping at the bit to see Wonder Woman 1984, it’s worth noting how positive and excited Gadot’s announcement tweet is. Nor is Gadot alone in approaching the news as an overall positive for the film. Director Patty Jenkins similarly took to Twitter to weigh in on the film’s new release date.
Jenkins tweeted, “Our weekend. Feels like home. Can’t wait for the day to come to share so many people’s great work, blowing me away every day.”

My guess is this change probably has far more to with giving Wonder Woman 1984 a better playing field at the box office than there being any possible issues behind-the-scenes. After all, Todd Phillips’ Joker hits theaters about a month before the previous November 2019 release and J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode IX is set to land just afterward in December.
It’s certainly unfortunate that we’ll have to wait longer- but I think the payoff will be worth it.
