Jon Favreau’s birthday was October 19th. His regular day job would be my dream birthday gift. He is still recording voice sessions for The Lion King, and is overseeing the live action Star Wars TV show for the Disney Play app called The Mandalorian. Someone very special came to visit the set of The Mandalorian: A man by the name of George Lucas.

Lucas, who as you (better) know, created the Star Wars empire, and sold it to Disney in 2012. Since then, he’s visited almost every set of every Star Wars movie made by Disney. Sometimes it was ceremonial for press, and other times it was to give some advice, like on Solo. He actually gave his input on a scene that Ron Howard was directing. (When Qi’ra was trying on capes, Han came in to talk to her, and originally he took the cape from her and hung it back up. Lucas said he wouldn’t hang it back up, so Howard did a take where Han just throws it down, and that is the take that is in the movie!)

That first picture, Lucas seems to be doing some additional lighting with his phone. The second picture, they are joined by Clone Wars/Rebels creator Dave Filoni – who is directing the first episode of The Mandalorian.

I’m sure it means a lot to Favreau to have Lucas come and give his blessing. Most of the people involved with the franchise now is because they are such fans of what Lucas created. I wouldn’t hold my breath for a cameo, but crazier things have happened, so we should look out for it in the background all the same.

The Mandalorian will air sometime next year on the Disney Play app.

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
