THE FANBOY: ‘Captain Marvel Impresses, Misdiagnosing The Trouble With Superman, and The Collective Dream’
On this week’s edition of The Fanboy Podcast, host and Revenge of The Fans Editor-in-Chief Mario-Francisco Robles discusses the latest update on Birds of Prey, the Captain Marvel trailer that arrived on Tuesday, and the question of whether or not audiences have simply fallen out of love with Superman.
With yesterday’s big report about the actresses currently being looked at for Birds of Prey, MFR discusses whether or not we should be getting attached to any of these names, and whether or not the trolls freaking out about the races of some of them deserve to be considered.
Earlier this week, Marvel Studios unveiled the trailer for Captain Marvel, and a lot was hinging on that for him. It’s not a character or property he has any attachment to, and was Meh on the film overall, declaring he’d need a trailer before he decided if he was interested or not. Well, the trailer’s here, and the verdict is in!
From there, he discusses what makes passionate fandom so special and how each of us has more power than we realize and are more special than we give ourselves credit for. Things get personal and deep, as they often do, but it all ties into the impact that the new film Life Itself had on him earlier this week and what it made him realize about the way passionate fans intake art, and how art can reveal so much about what makes us tick.
He wraps everything up by taking a bunch of listener questions regarding Batgirl, Supergirl, Joker, Batman, The DC Universe streaming service, and more.
