The DCU is definitely changing. Between the Cavill debacle, and the Affleck mess, DC could see its two biggest properties recast. With Matt Reeves’ Batman movie gearing up to go into production soon, the notion of who will put on the cowl has come up. Someone has thrown his hat into the ring (kind of): Jon Hamm.
Hamm appeared on the In Depth with Graham Bensinger to promote his new film Bad Times At The El Royale, and while doing so, mentioned he’d be open to discussion about taking the job:
“It depends on the script, what the story is,” Hamm explained to Bensinger, during the interview. “I am a huge comic book fan, always have been. I have read comic books since I was nine or younger. And I am pretty knowledgeable about a lot of them. And I like the genre, and I like when they are done well.”
That isn’t an outrageous answer. A lot of actors won’t sign on to things unless they like the script. But he elaborates that while he thinks he’d be a good fit, nothing official has been discussed:
“I’d probably fit the suit. I’d have to work out a lot, which I don’t love. But, I am sure there is an interesting version of that being out there. And if they wanted to tap me on the shoulder and ask me to do it: why not?” Hamm then added, “I have had rumors about that since probably season one of Mad Men,” he revealed. “I have never had a conversation with anyone about it, literally. And I’ve sat in the room with all these guys. I have never been offered anything. I think the Internet wants what it wants. But, I mean, a lot of people have to sign off on that, obviously not just the Internet.”
So it does look like, under the right circumstances, it could happen, instead of being a pipe dream, like Idris Elba for James Bond.
Here is the full interview, if you want to watch it.
I’m not sure why I am writing this, instead of Revengers co-host Brett Miro. He has been campaigning for this for a long time. I guess because his version of this post would be all exclamation points and various excitement emojis. So you’re stuck with me and my puns such as:
Wouldn’t it be great if Jon Hamm was Batman and they cast Kevin Bacon to be a villain? Maybe the can cast Meatloaf and Carrot Top as cronies. That would be a well balanced cast. Do you like that idea? Or is it too cheesy?
While I would prefer Oscar Isaac in the role, Hamm wouldn’t be bad (Ham on a roll is very good! Okay last one, promise). He has the Bruce Wayne look, and the age is right if they want to keep it in line with the Affleck canon.
What do you think of this? Would you like to see Hamm suit up as Batman?
