WONDER WOMAN’s Said Taghmaoui Unsure About His Villain Role In BOND 25

Danny Boyle’s shocking departure from Bond 25 last month continues to have interesting consequences for the film. Aside from the fact that it remains to be seen if EON will push back the film’s release date and who will succeed Boyle as the director of Daniel Craig’s final installment as Bond, apparently whoever plays the film’s main villain is also at play.

Wonder Woman‘s Said Taghmaoui revealed in an interview with The National that he had been cast for the film’s main villain prior to Boyle’s departure and doesn’t know yet if he still has the job.

Taghmaoui explained:

I was cast by Danny Boyle, and just now he left the project, so of course there’s some uncertainty…

… We don’t know who the director will be, and the producers don’t know if they’re going to go Russian or Middle East with the baddie right now. I literally just received a message saying: ‘If they go Middle East, it’s you. If they go Russian, it’s someone else.’ It’s the story of my life. Always on that line between something that could change my life and something that disappears.

On the one hand, I feel like it would be a nice touch if Bond went back to its roots and had a Russian villain again, especially considering today’s political scene. On the other hand, although Middle Eastern villains are all too easy to turn into stereotypes, Taghmaoui is a gifted actor. Plus apparently the villain role in Bond 25 has passed the actor’s personal vetting process, judging by his added quote: “If you knew how many movies I refuse because of my conscience, honestly.

Whatever they do though, I desperately hope that Bond won’t revealed as a codename for multiple spies. Leave that concept where it belongs, in the David Niven parody version of Casino Royale from the 1960’s.
