STAR WARS: RESISTANCE’s Spot In The Timeline Revealed!

Hot off the heels of news that General Leia Organa would be appearing in Lucasfilm’s upcoming animated series Star Wars: Resistance, another valuable piece of intel about the show has surfaced. A fan by the username of @Darth_Hardy posted a screencap of the show’s page on the official Star Wars website on Twitter, revealing that the show is set “about six months before The Force Awakens.

If that placement in the timeline is accurate- and it seems likely that it is, I’ll be curious to see how many seasons Star Wars: Resistance will have. Unless showrunners plan to have a later season to be set adjacent to the events of The Last Jedi or even during a possible timeskip between The Last Jedi and J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Episode IX, six months before The Force Awakens seems like a short amount of time to cram a lot of episodes in.

Regardless there’s one thing I really hope Star Wars: Resistance ends up exploring: Hosnian Prime. While the planet has been explored a bit in some of the official novels, the location has been woefully unexplored onscreen save for its brief introductory scene in The Force Awakens– aka the scene where Hosnian Prime, all its inhabitants, nearby ships and neighboring planets were all wiped out by Starkiller Base.

Admittedly it’s a nitpick on my part, considering how George Lucas also never bothered to develop and show Alderaan in the 1977 original film before he too blew that planet up. That said, considering the political landscape that the Sequel Trilogy begins in, I think Star Wars: Resistance would be a perfect place to tap into that a bit onscreen and show the dysfunctional political environment Leia and the Resistance are stuck in as the First Order positions itself for hostile takeover of the galaxy.
