Samuel L. Jackson And Cobie Smulders Join SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME

There’s this great scene in Vol. 6 of Brian Michael Bendis’ Ultimate Spider-Man (an adaptation of the classic Symbiote storyline) where a young Peter Parker finds himself having an emotional, angsty and inspirational heart-to-heart with SHIELD Director Nick Fury. It all culminates to this wonderful panel where Fury lays out the future in store for our youthful protagonist, telling him that one day down the line he’s going to be “one of the greats” and work with all of the other iconic Marvel superheroes he’s grown up idolizing.

Ever since news came out in 2015 that Sony and Marvel Studios had cut a deal to introduce the web-slinger in the MCU as a youthful addition to the films’ ever-growing cast, I’ve thought about that particular scene. In my humble opinion, it encapsulates what Kevin Feige, Tom Holland, the Russo Brothers and Jon Watts have done so spectacularly with the character and what the future may hold for him in the MCU.

Needless to say, I am personally excited that we might see that scene adapted in some form to the big screen in next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Vulture reports that both Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Cobie Smulder’s Maria Hill will feature in the film. This will mark the first time either character has interacted with Peter Parker in the MCU.

I quite enjoyed Spider-Man: Homecoming last year and with it seeming as though Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark won’t be returning in Far From Home (don’t quote me on that), it’s nice to see that Fury and Agent Hill will apparently be returning to the screen and helping guide Peter in his journey to adulthood. Granted I’m curious to see why a government organization like SHIELD would get involved in a conflict with Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) of all villains.
