Hasbro Is Developing A POWER RANGERS Movie Sequel

Hasbro now owns the Power Rangers franchise. Outside of the obvious merchandise implications, it was unclear how Hasbro will handle things. Well it seems that they want to get the most out of the franchise.

The 25th Anniversary of Power Rangers is on August 28th, where a prime time episode will air on Nickelodeon, featuring several veteran Rangers. Outside of that, the original Green Ranger, Jason David Frank thinks we will get a standalone Green Ranger series. Frank has talked about (and clamored for) it before, but now seems it is more of a certainty under Hasbro. He tells ComicBook.com:

“I always wanted the Green Ranger series,” Frank said. “Probably going to get it, with all due respect to anyone because I’m not letting the cat out of the bag, but the fanbase is starting to generate what’s going on. Now with the Soul of the Dragon book being released in December, it’s a solo Green Ranger book. It’s the Old Man Logan book that I wanted in the past. We’ve talked, I mean Aaron’s pitched this thing a long time ago, the Green Ranger.”

But Hasbro also seems interested in the big screen. Licensing.org contains a report from Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, and in it, he said they are in the early stages of development for a sequel to the 2017 film.

“Hasbro will work with a film studio to develop a new Power Rangers movie as a follow-up to the 2017 release.”

The movie was a clean break from the franchise. It recast the original characters, and started a brand new universe. The cast was great (especially RJ Cyler, who will become a bonafide movie star), and the movie was actually quite good. The end credits teased a sequel featuring Tommy Oliver, but it is unknown if Hasbro will continue with that.

Long story short, while I had my qualms about a toy company owning the already mishandled franchise, it seems they are at least on the right path to try to attempt to do right by the franchise. I’m down for a sequel to the 2017 movie, but would also love a movie that takes place in the TV universe, which has already been partially written by the original Blue Ranger, David Yost.

I truly love this franchise. If Hasbro can make it live up to the potential it is capable of, then you will never hear a negative word about from me. It seems the seeds are planted to make that happen.

What would you like to see from the franchise?
