Deadline is reporting that Oren Uziel has been hired to pen a solo script for the Girl of Steel, Supergirl! The project now gets added to a long list of other films that are currently in development at DC Entertainment, films like New Gods, Blackhawk, Booster Gold, Gotham City Sirens, Lobo, and many others. These are films that aren’t all necessarily going to see the light of day, but they’re being developed to see how well they come together,
Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El is the older- yet younger?- cousin of Kal-El, aka Clark Kent, aka Superman. She escaped Krypton at the same time and was sent to look after her baby cousin but was knocked off course and stuck in the Phantom Zone for around twenty-five years.
Fans have been curious about any or all cinematic plans involving Supergirl ever since a theory popped up online about an empty pod on Kryptonian scout ship Clark discovers in Man of Steel. The theory was that the pod contained Kara Zor-El, and that she may be somewhere out there in this universe.
So now the question becomes: Will Uziel build on, and legitimize that theory? We’ll have to wait and see.
Uziel is the only person attached to the film so far. He has screenplay credits on 22 Jump Street, The Cloverfield Paradox, Shimmer Lake, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot.
