The JUDGE DREDD Pilot Script Is Complete

Last year, it was announced that Judge Dredd would become a TV show, and now that is looking more and more like a reality.

Rob Williams – who wrote for the character in the comics – completed a pilot script for the TV Show Judge Dredd: Mega-City One as was announced by Dredd owners Rebellion at San Diego Comic Con. Not only is the pilot script complete, but a 2 year plan has been laid out as well.

THR also mentions that despite the title, the show will focus on an ensemble of “Judges” in the city, not just Dredd himself. Jason Kingsley, Rebellion creative director and CEO, will act as executive producer on the show, along with Brian Jenkins as another producer:

“It’s been really exciting to be working with Rob on the pilot,” Jenkins said in a statement. “We have a really talented team here at Rebellion Productions and I’m really proud of them. Jason and I have been busy looking at locations and laying out season one as we gear up, to move forward into pre-production.”

Kingsley added, “I’ve read the pilot script by Rob and the team, and got that same thrill I did when I first discovered Judge Dredd. As we drive this project forward I’m always surprised by how much effort goes on behind-the-scenes to bring something like Mega-City One to the screen. I’m very pleased with how the whole project is coming together and looking forward to more exciting announcements in the coming months.”

No word on what network this will air on, or if movie reboot star Karl Urban is attached. In 2012, Urban starred in the remake of the Sylvester Stallone movie from 1995. Urban has expressed interest in returning in the past, if the story was right, and producer Brian Jenkins wants that to happen too. So it is certainly a possibility.

Do you want the TV series to connect to the 2012 movie or would you rather have a clean break? Is Williams a good pick to write the pilot? I have not read the comics so I am not too familiar with his work. Let us know.
