DOCTOR WHO: EW Offers Look At New Doctor

Doctor Who fans are waiting with baited breath for any new official information we can get on the new season. Entertainment Weekly’s Comic Con issue gives us a little taste of what to expect.

EW also announced that BBC America – who airs the show in United States – will simulcast the premiere episode so it is on at the same time as it is in the U.K. For the past few years, it has aired on the same day, but a few hours later to fit the States’ prime time schedule. They did do a simulcast once before – for the 50th Anniversary episode The Day of the Doctor in 2013. Hopefully, just like that one, they will not air commercials during it. When it airs on BBC One in the UK, it does not contain ads. So the folks at BBC America have to chop up the episode to add commercials. It takes away from the flow. Besides its not really a “simulcast” if the episode falls behind here, because of commercials. So hopefully that is not what will happen.

When asked about casting a woman as the Doctor – the first time in the shows 55 year history that the character is officially female, showrunner Chris Chibnall had this to say:

“I just felt the time was right,” said Chibnall. “I think if the show hadn’t done it, we would have been behind the world, and Doctor Who has got to be out front leading the world, and being a great example of all the amazing things that are in the world. So, it wasn’t even a question in my mind.”

You can see a few more shots from EW’s visit to the set in the video embedded below.

The cast of Doctor Who along with Chibnall, will be at San Diego Comic Con next week, where I presume we will get an official air date, and a trailer. We will be sure to keep you up to date.

Doctor Who airs this fall on BBC One and BBC America.
