Dwayne Johnson Teases BLACK ADAM Cameos And Gives Updates

Dwayne Johnson has been tapped to play Black Adam for ages. At first it was assumed it would be in a Shazam movie, then it was announced that he would be starring in his own standalone feature, because you know, “The Rock”.

Johnson has been doing press for his new movie Skyscraper, and naturally the topic of Black Adam came up.

In an interview with Variety, he gives a quick update on the flick:

Black Adam is coming along.” Johnson revealed. “The script is coming along. I’m very happy with it. That’s a project that obviously you want to take your time [with].”

In a separate interview with FilmStarts Johnson revealed that filming will probably start at the end of next year, which means we can expect a 2020 release date.

“With Black Adam, I don’t think we’re going to start early next year,” Johnson said. “Early next year right now it looks like I’m going to be shooting Jumanji, and then after that, if everything goes well I’ll shoot a movie called Red Notice with Rawson Thurber again, with Gal Gadot, and another actor yet to be named. But Black Adam possibly at the end of next year. It’s coming along great, the script is coming along great we’re very happy with it.”

Johnson also mentions something pretty cool: That we can expect DC character cameos when the movie happens.

“Without giving anything away, there MIGHT be maybe a cameo or two of some of the other DC superheroes,” Johnson said. “We’ll see. That’s been the beauty of Black Adam as we’ve been developing it is that we could make a movie that just stood on its own too as well, but that’s also the beauty of those universes coming together at DC.”

The two easiest ones to guess are Shazam and Superman. But who knows, it could be someone from the Suicide Squad too. There was a rumor that Johnson would be Black Adam in Suicide Squad 2 but that doesn’t seem to be happening now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t set up something for the future. Who wouldn’t want to see Johnson share a screen with Will Smith – two of the most charismatic actors to ever make movies? If Deadshot shows up, that could be interesting. But I’ll still stick with guessing Shazam or Superman.

Black Adam has been teased for so long that it feels like any update is news. When they start actually filming, that is when I will get officially excited. No official released date has been announced, but we will keep you updated.
