How The Events of CIVIL WAR Play Directly Into ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, According To Peyton Reed

Ant-Man and The Wasp comes out next week, and it will definitely address the big events from the MCU….not the ones from Infinity War, but from Civil War.

If you remember, the last time we saw Scott Lang was as a prisoner in the Raft after not signing the Sokovia Accords, and fighting in the airport. ComicBook.com was at a press conference for the premiere of the movie and was able to get some insight from Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige.

“We could not ignore what happened to Scott Lang in [Captain America: Civil War] in this movie. There are ramifications of the Sokovia Accords and Scott being on house arrest. It really gave us a natural starting point. We definitely had to deal with the ramifications post-Civil War”

So, this version of the story Peyton Reed wanted to tell doesn’t exist without Civil War. It actually is quite significant – I don’t think Scott would have “relapsed” and been thrown in jail again now that he is in Cassie’s life, has the respect of his family, and is a superhero. That aspect between movies would have felt forced if he got out of jail again for stealing something stupid. For Scott to be a criminal again, would have been really stretching it…unless Captain America needs your help.

For Reed and Marvel to use that to their advantage means they must have a strong story – they could have ignored it with a throwaway line or something, but instead they leaned into it. It seems to have paid off too – /Film has compiled reactions to the film, and they are pretty stellar.

This will be the third time we see Ant-Man, so they can have some fun and take some risks now that he is more established. The world can see what those are when Ant-Man and The Wasp opens on July 6th.
