Marvel Told Samuel L. Jackson That Nick Fury and Black Panther “Will Meet”

Two of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe chapters were Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther. Do you know what both of those have in common? They both feature King T’Challa/Black Panther, and they both exclude Nick Fury.

5 years ago, this would have been unfathomable. Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury was a staple of the MCU. Now though, things have changed quite a bit. It has nothing to do with Jackson’s availability or willingness however, he is still disappointed he wasn’t in Black Panther. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he tells Kevin Frazier as much.

“I can’t answer that! I’m wondering,” he exclaimed to ET’s Kevin Frazier on why Fury didn’t make the cut. “He should’ve been there. He should have been somewhere — maybe in that casino in Korea when all of that stuff jumped off.”

He even argued his point to the Marvel bosses, who essentially told him no, but said it will happen eventually:

“Just so you could say, ‘Oh, Nick Fury is out in the world looking for whatever the evil in the world is,'” he explained. “He’s just there and is kind of like, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s that Black Panther dude.’ ‘Cause there’s no way in the world he doesn’t know where Wakanda is or what vibranium is or any of that, because he’s Nick Fury.” Jackson made that suggestion to Marvel brass and, he says, “It was just like, ‘Ehh, nah. We’re good. Nick Fury and Black Panther will meet somewhere. But not there.‘”

Jackson is right in that Fury does know about Wakanda, it was on his map at the end of Iron Man 2

But, all is not lost. Marvel said they will meet! But…wait a minute….if you’ve seen Avengers: Infinity War (SPOILERS for those who still have not) you will know that both T’Challa and Fury die at the hands of Thanos! With both Chris Pratt and The Russo Brothers essentially telling us that the deaths will stick and that future stories will be before Infinity War, then that doesn’t make sense. How could two dead characters meet? There is no way that Marvel is lying to us about the deaths in Infinity War is there?

Expect Fury and T’Challa to meet in Avengers: Whatever The Subtitle Will Be and maybe beyond. Nick Fury helping T’Challa navigate the outside world in the inevitable Black Panther 2 would be a treat.

Before that, you will be able to see Nick Fury again in Captain Marvel. A younger pre-eye patch version from the 90s will show up to help Carol Danvers.

What do you think of Jackson’s comments? Are you excited to see Nick Fury meet Black Panther?
