Carrie Fisher’s Brother Hopes Leia Will Appear in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Despite audiences being divisive over The Last Jedi, most people would agree that Carrie Fisher’s final appearance as Leia Organa was one of the best things about the film.

After Fisher’s sudden passing in late 2016, fans have been wondering how Lucasfilm would handle the Leia character in Episode IX, after rumors started floating around that Leia would have a major role in the final film of the new trilogy. While Lucasfilm and Episode IX director J.J. Abrams have been quiet on the subject, Carrie’s brother, Todd, recently told Variety that he hopes that Leia will appear in the next Star Wars flick.

Yoda came back in the last movie, so why not Carrie? In the first film, Obi-Wan says that if he dies, he’ll come back stronger than ever. I feel like that’s Carrie. She’ll never disappear entirely.

The use of Leia in Episode IX has been a subject of debate since the ending of The Last Jedi saw Leia leading the remaining members of The Resistance in escaping from Kylo Ren and the First Order. Some have argued that Lucasfilm could use the same technology they used for the younger Leia in Rogue One so Leia could appear in the film. Others have thought that the rumored time-jump between The Last Jedi and Episode IX could be used to have Leia’s exit take place off-screen.

Regardless of how Leia’s death will be handled, this will be yet another item that Abrams and Lucasfilm will have to address in a time where the Star Wars franchise is in a tug-of-war between the fans and the creative forces at Lucasfilm after the reception of The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s failure at the box office.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for a December 20, 2019 release.

Do you think Leia should be in Episode IX?
