RUMOR: JOKER Origin Film To Start Production In September?

In my humble opinion, Todd Phillips’ Joker film has been one of the stranger stories from DC and Warner Bros. to follow over the past year. An origin story film about the Joker- starring Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role and produced by the likes of Martin Scorsese– yet it will essentially be an Elseworlds film. Needless to say, the Joker movie just felt like one of those projects that wouldn’t actually happen, but it would be talked about for awhile.

If this latest rumor is to be believed, then I’ll be eating crow sometime this fall. Following the heels of The Hollywood Reporter mentioning that Phillips’ film was “expected to begin shooting in the fall” and is “budgeted at about $55 million,” Christopher Marc of OmegaUnderground has provided further details about the looming shooting date of the Clown Prince of Crime’s film. Marc writes that “that the studio hopes to get cameras rolling by this September in New York City” and further notes that “this would suggest a possible release date next year but nothing has been made official. We suspect this could be one of the film’s that are expected to be announced at the studio’s DC presentation at San Diego Comic-Con next month.

Personally I’m not sure what to think. The details they’re providing here seem believable enough to me. Aside from obviously following the groundwork of THR’s initial claims of production starting “in the fall,” Marc specifies both a month (September) and the film’s shooting location (New York City). If there’s truth to the claims, then Marc’s speculation that fans might hear official news on the film from Warner Bros at Comic Con next month would definitely make sense.

But what are your thoughts? Does the rumor sound believable to you? Are you interested in seeing how Phillips’ Joker film might turn out? Whatever your thoughts are, be sure to share them with us in the comments section down below!
