First Official Photos For New HALLOWEEN Release Ahead Of The Upcoming Trailer

It’s a testament to how promising a year 2018 is shaping up to be for horror fans that David Gordon Green’s upcoming Halloween sequel is only the third most anticipated film on my personal list for upcoming horror films, right behind Ari Aster’s soon-to-be-released debut Hereditary and Luca Guadagnino’s devilish looking remake of Suspiria. And considering how great Alex Garland’s Annihilation and John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place both were earlier this year, it really does seem like 2018 might end up being seen as an apex in the recent trend of great horror films released over the past several years.

Regardless of which upcoming horror film you’re most excited to see this year may be, there’s great news for fans of Michael Myers. USA Today have helped inject a nice shot of adrenaline and hype for fans by releasing the first batch of official screenshots of the film in preparation for the upcoming release of the first trailer on Friday.

This new entry in the Halloween franchise offers an intriguing premise for an entry that doubles as a celebration of the fortieth anniversary of John Carpenter’s 1978 original. Michael Myers is back and wielding his iconic knife again, but it turns out that Laura Strode (the protagonist of both this film and the original, played by Jamie Lee Curtis) has not only anticipated the masked psycho’s return- She’s been training for it.

While she was “running for her life” in the original film, Curtis says, “In this case, she is well-matched, she is prepared, she is focused. She will be the one people are standing behind when that moment comes, because she’s the one ready.

Personally speaking, I love the idea of a middle-aged woman ready to kick some ass in a slasher horror film. Between Curtis in this film, Tim Miller’s upcoming Terminator reboot with Laura Hamilton finally reprising her role as Sarah Connor and Neill Blomkamp’s cancelled attempt at rebooting the Alien franchise with a new take on an Alien 3 film starring Sigourney Weaver as a not-dead, middle aged Ellen Ripley, there’s been a bit of a trend in the horror and sci-fi genres of classic female characters being brought back to the big screen for one last stand.

But enough of me laying it on thick about my love for sci-fi and horror. What do you all think about the new Halloween film? Are you as eager to see the first trailer as I am? Whatever your thoughts may be, please share them with us in the comments section down below!
