Marvel Might Ask You To Direct Scarlett Johansson’s BLACK WIDOW Movie
Everything except for an official word from Marvel says that a Black Widow standalone movie is happening. Chris Evans even seemed to confirm it. Now, a new report suggests Marvel is making progress on making the movie a reality.
Variety Film Reporter Justin Kroll took to Twitter to say that Marvel has met with a ton of people to direct the Black Widow movie.
Fun fact: More then 65 directors have met for the BLACK WIDOW job. Marvel being extremely thorough on this one

65! That is a lot. I am curious as to how many of those 65 were women that they met with. (There are over 100 female directors that Marvel could hire). Also, it makes you wonder if this will be a tandem job, like Captain Marvel is (that film is being directed by both Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck.)
My choice: Rachel Talalay. She directed Tank Girl and has been in movie jail ever since because of it. But she does stellar work when she directs episodes of The Flash and Doctor Who, so it is time to let her out and helm this film.
A Black Widow film is long overdue, but would have perhaps worked better in Phase 1 or 2 of the MCU before everything changed. However, if they already have a story for whatever the climate of the MCU is now, then that is great. Of course, it could always be a prequel of her origins, but I would be very surprised if it didn’t have some sort of present day element to it too.
It is nice that Marvel is taking their time to get this right, and not just slapping a team together to churn this out as quickly as possible. I would love to see the list of the 65 candidates. I bet there are some bland, safe names on there, but also some interesting ones too. Could Free Fire‘s Ben Wheatley be one of the directors they considered? Don’t know.
Who do you think would be a perfect fit to direct the Black Widow movie? Do you think it is one of the 65 names that Marvel is considering? And, well, considering they’re being so extensive and not leaving any stone unturned, be sure to keep your ringer on…
