Disney Orders Anime-Inspired STAR WARS RESISTANCE Series

A while back, we reported that Disney and Lucasfilm had registered trademarks for something called Star Wars Resistance, but no one knew what Resistance would be.

Today, we have that answer. Disney has announced that Star Wars Resistance will be an anime-inspired TV series from Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni and it will start airing this fall on the Disney Channel and Disney XD.

The series will take place before The Force Awakens and will focus on Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot who is tasked by the Resistance to spy on the First Order. Disney also announced that characters from the sequel trilogy, like Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, will appear in the series. Oscar Issac and Gwendoline Christie will return to voice their characters.

In a statement, Filoni talked about what influenced him to do Resistance.

The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.

Resistance will be another series, like Clone Wars and Rebels, that explores time periods in between the film’s Episodes that fans have been curious about. The time between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens is already currently being explored in the popular Poe Dameron comic series.

With the anime style and the company’s strong track record when it comes to Star Wars TV shows, Resistance sounds like it’ll be another winner for Disney and the fans.

Star Wars Resistance will air starting this fall on the Disney Channel and Disney XD.
