GRAND THEFT AUTO 5 Has Made More Money Than Any Other Form Of Media… Ever!

This is a bit of news that, to me, I have to say is unsurprising but insane as a gamer. I played Grand Theft Auto 5 when it first released and played only through the first bit of DLC, but I knew immediately that they had a banger on their hands. Granted, I didn’t keep up with the game, but even in my most indirect connection to GTA, I still was aware of it’s overall impact on the gaming community. Overwatch along with Fortnite are the ones that people are speaking about the most, but no game has been as silent or as well performing as GTA V. Check out the stats below.

Managing director and senior research analyst Doug Creutz, told MarketWatch that GTA V has made more money than blockbuster behemoth’s like Star Wars and Gone with The Wind, the latter bringing in roughly $3 billion in revenue after inflation. Creutz also added that even with home entertainment sales, to which he puts in the ballpark of $1 billion, the films still don’t come close to the GTA V.

It’s a wild outlier,” said Creutz, adding, “That’s not to say Rockstar won’t have other big hits—it may—but another GTA V isn’t likely. Michael Jackson had a lot of hit albums but he only had one Thriller.”

One thing to keep in mind though is that a lot of these numbers are coming from sources that the general public is not privy to, so take these statements with a grain of salt. Either way… DAMN. Those are some fantastic numbers overall. To think, this kind of performance is from the same developer that had the “Hot Coffee” Scandal back in ’04. From the series where this, verbatim, conversation happened between myself and a friend when showing him the game for the first time (said friend quite possibly being Revenge of the Fans Editor-in-chief, Mario Francisco Robles.)

Me: Dude, check this out.

Friend: Dude! You picked up a hooker!

Me: Yup. Doin’ the dirty too, hahaha.

Friend: Wow. The car even rocks. Hilarious.

Me: Yup.

Friend: What are you doing?

Me: Getting my money back.

Friend: Did you… just kill the hooker?

Me: Yeah. I wanted my money back. Going to use it to mod one of my rides.

Ah… the good ole days.
