For fans who are waiting patiently for Star Trek: Discovery to return, we have some news for you.

According to VarietyDiscovery co-creator Alex Kurtzman will direct the first episode of season two, which starts shooting in April in Toronto. No return date for the series has been announced yet.

The second season will pick up where the first left off, with the crew of the USS Discovery answering a distress call from the famed USS Enterprise. Last month, Kurtzman discussed how Discovery synced up with the original series and how season two will answer some burning questions fans had about season one, including about a certain Vulcan.

I think with Enterprise’s arrival in the finale we recognize that the audience has a lot of questions about our synchronicity with the original series, which really means or synchronicity with canon. So the promise of the Enterprise holds the answers to a lot of those questions, including Spock’s relationship with his half-sister who he’s never mentioned. Which does not necessarily mean you’re going to see Spock, just that we owe an answer to that question.

It seems Kurtzman and company are fully aware of what questions fans have had and will look to address them in the coming season. Star Trek fans are some of the most protective fans in geek culture, so it would behoove the showrunners to think long and hard about how they tackle the coming season and how they handle elements from the original series.
