Clear Your Schedules! Marvel Is Set To Invade Disney Parks In A Big Way
Marvel.com announced that characters like the Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man, along with The Avengers will have attractions in Disney Parks throughout the world.
Disneyland in Los Angeles will get a whole themed section in 2020 that includes Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission: BREAKOUT! ride. Disneyland in Paris will get a kinetic Iron Man attraction as well as a live on stage performance from everyone’s favorite superheroes.
Hong Kong Disneyland will be getting in on the fun as well, with them getting an attraction where guests can team up with Ant-Man and the Wasp. That will join the Iron Man experience they have already, which opened last year.
One obvious omission you might notice, is Walt Disney World in Orlando. This is where things get complicated – Disney actually doesn’t have the rights to put Marvel things in their parks east of the Mississippi River. Universal Orlando Resort has the rights, and that is why you can find an entire Marvel Island with plenty of attractions like the Incredible Hulk Coaster in their Islands of Adventure Theme Park.
Inside Universal has a great breakdown of the contract if you are interested. I personally prefer Universal Orlando over Disney, so I am glad things aren’t changing for now.
Quick story: I used to have an annual pass to Universal Orlando when I lived closer to it. I was battling mild depression as a teenager, and was not happy with anything in my life. When I was there though, my anger, sadness and despair left me at the gate. Remember when Chubbs told Happy Gilmore to go to his “Happy Place”? Universal Orlando was – and remains to this day – mine. I was there last in 2016, and will return in 2019. Experiencing all of the Marvel attractions there are a highlight in a trip full of nothing but highlights.
I hope these new attractions at the Disney Parks provide the same joy that the ones at Universal Orlando have given me. If I ever win the lottery, I will be sure to get to Disney to experience these, as well as all of the Star Wars attractions coming soon.
Are you excited to experience these attractions when they finally open to the public?
