WONDER WOMAN’s HBO Premiere Is Network’s Highest-Rated Debut In Two Years!
Wonder Woman broke numerous box office records last summer, but now she’s also looking to break cable records too.
The Patty Jenkins-directed film premiered on HBO on Saturday night and brought in the highest viewership for a film premiere on the network in two years with 2.8 million viewers, despite heavy competition from the Winter Olympics. This number also puts it far ahead of its DCU siblings Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad.
The film also saw great success on Sunday night, bringing in another 1.6 million viewers, making it the best viewership for a Sunday movie in four years. All of these numbers don’t include on-demand or DVR viewership, which could make the numbers even higher.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Wonder Woman was one of 2017’s biggest success stories and a true pop culture event. With the sequel coming next year, Warner Bros. will hope to strike oil twice after the Gal Gadot-starring film helped boast the studio’s total earnings for 2017 past the $5 billion mark for only the second time in the studio’s history.
After looking at these numbers, the demand is surely there for more Wonder Woman.
